Volunteer Work At Local Animal Shelter

Ace Handyman Richmond of Richmond is organizing a major volunteer project Dec. 26 and 27 for the Richmond Animal League, the no-kill animal shelter in Chesterfield County. The project is a joint venture between Ace Handyman Richmond, RAL, Home Depot, Lowe’s Sherwin-Williams, NB Goodwin, and the community. It centers around RAL’s adoption facility at 11401 International Drive in North Chesterfield.  The RAL shelter hasn’t been renovated since it was built in 1994.

Richmond Animal League is a local non-profit organization, receiving no financial support from government agencies or national humane organizations. They rely solely on private donations, adoption fees, and fundraising activities. Community members have stepped up to help with their time and almost $4,000 worth of materials.  Ace Handyman Richmond is providing all of the following for free: project management, labor, flooring installation, painting, sanitary dishwashing station improvements, shelving structures, drop ceiling tiling, and repairs throughout the interior and exterior of the facility.

Operation Silent Night

According to Michele Deane, the owner of Ace Handyman Richmond, “The timing is of critical importance because it follows Operation Silent Night, an initiative to adopt all animals out of the shelter in time for Christmas.” With all animals absent from the shelter, renovation work can take place without exposure to noise, chemicals, and other disturbances. Animals will return to the shelter just before New Year’s Day.  Once renovations are complete, RAL plans to continue its work immediately in 2019.  They will be accepting dogs and cats from area shelters and facilitating adoptions in the Richmond area.
